REVERIES ON DESIGN

WASTING TIME ON UTOPIA

I enjoy accompanying clients (and folks) through their communications needs — be it with their audience or, simply, the world; be it with themselves or with others. In my 20 years of experience I found out Design also serves the purpose of getting to know one's own company, one's own enterprise, or even oneself, because it organizes ideas, things, concepts — and in this process of telling our business to others, we end up telling it to ourselves first.

Oh and the things we discover about our own processes...

So, is Design like therapy? For businesses?

Design deals with alterity. Otherness. It requires loads of empathy = to imagine how the other will "see that" or "use this". So, it is always "the other" at the end of the action.

To deal with humans — the other — the simple and the obvious can be excellent "best practices" in Design — as well as in life or in self-knowledge, (or even in love). That is because the simple and the obvious seem to have a way with clarity.

And the good story can be told
when there is clarity.

A bit like Persephone, the Queen of the Underworld,
I guide clients towards unveiling what they already know and feel about their business (or their lives), but might not be so conscious yet. Going a bit deeper to what is below the purely rational can be quite elucidating. That's why to be willing to be a client is courageous. It shows openess to discover, to learn more, to do better and to risk. It shows self-confidence to accept guidance.

Therefore, I enjoy providing clients with options in their journey and assisting them with decision-making in line with budget, timeline, audience, intuition, and creativity. I work efficiently, imaginatively and strategically. In the “art of forecasting”because to design is to see ahead and plan by the power of imagination — anything that happens is imagined first.

(So, here, cheers to the fury of Art).

I suppose you have already notice: I love the arts. Stories, narratives, dreams, tarot, poetry, intuition, forecasting, the ocult, the obvious not so obvious, and all types of languages (verbal or not), and communication are my realm.

Ok, so be it in a design meeting,
or in a oracular session, or in an oneiric trip, or in trying to foresee what is coming next, the magic resides in the story that is being suggested and subtly told to those paying close and expanded attention.

But, coming back to the beginning, in addition to keeping in mind the mysteries of everything,
I also like to think of Design as organization,
Design as an Ouroboros
the snake that eats its tail.
That means Design is a neat and economic cycle where there is neither more nor less of what is necessary. It is, also, elastic with room for change.

We know all the pieces are already there — and they fit — waiting for someone to understand their narrative, their logic. It is like this in the tarot, it is like this in literature, it is like this in life, it is like this in astrology. What is needed is a caring interpreter.

That is why
I specialize in storytelling —
and in noticing contradictions, that is, when the tail is not in the mouth —, because good design is neat (and psychic) organization — and that is totally noticeable even if it is non-verbal.

Just like Magic.
